The purpose of this resource is to correlate Hirudinea genetics to biological function. Hirudinea is an ideal model for this purpose given its simple anatomy. Our aim is to develop a system that correlates physiological/biological data with genomic information. This involves establishing an information model that organizes experimental data that is used to provide a basis for making conclusions about biological activity. This consortium has been initiated by Dr. Eduardo Macagno's laboratory at the University of California, San Diego. The aim is to serve as a useful resource and collaborative medium for contributing towards the understanding of Hirudinea biology in particular and genomic knowledge in general.
